As vehicles become more connected to the internet, wireless networks, roadside infrastructure, and each other, cybersecurity is increasingly more important to the safe operation of the vehicle and to protect vehicle occupants and others. The cyber risks include the potential for “bad actors” to steal personal and personally identifiable information. Perhaps, the biggest risk comes in the form of malicious agents taking control of the vehicle remotely and causing it to crash or otherwise disrupt traffic. These concerns motivated CAR to initiate an industry-focused dialog aimed at building awareness, driving discussions based on current knowledge, and facilitating development of preventative tools. In addition, cybersecurity for vehicles promises to be an important growth area for the Michigan economy and the automotive industry in general.

This upcoming CAR Breakfast Briefing will feature speakers, within the automotive industry and beyond, who can characterize the threats and present on strategies and methods for effectively managing cybersecurity for the “networked computers on wheels” that automobiles are increasingly becoming.

Moderator:

Richard Wallace, Director, Transportation Systems Analysis, at CAR will chair the event and moderate the panel discussion that will follow the presentations.

Speakers to Include:

Dr. Andrew Brown Jr. - Vice President & Chief Technologist, Delphi
