Houston being the world capital of energy, our research and education focus is on electric power and energy systems. The Power Electronics, Microgrids, and Subsea Electrical Systems Center (PEMSEC) at the University of Houston, Texas' activities are in the areas of advanced power electronics, electric drives systems, Transportation Electrification, Subsea Electrical Systems, and Microgrid energy management technologies.
Our research is dedicated to the development of the innovative technologies to greater use by direct/indirect application in practical systems and commercializing these technologies for reducing the emissions, improving the energy efficiency, and for the development of sustainable energy solutions.
The scope of research and education development activities of the PEMSEC is in the broad area of power electronics, energy storage and electrical power systems with special emphasis on power converters, Microgrids, and subsea power systems. Our key areas of expertise and research include power converter topologies, drive systems, protection, power flow studies, reliability, renewable energy, safety and reliability of batteries, cybersecurity and power system operations.
