A convergence of technologies is occurring that will change how buildings are powered. These technologies include the continued rapid growth of distributed generation resources (photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, fuel cells, micro turbines, etc.); the emergence of high-efficiency lighting technologies (especially solid-state LED lighting); wireless building automation systems; demand-side management of building energy use by electric utilities; and more.

"This is a dynamic period in the development of dc power distribution. EMerge Alliance-compliant products are on the market, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute has issued a 400-Vdc standard, the International Electrotechnical Commission has established an active project to develop global dc-powering standards and there are a growing number of dc-powered data centers around the world. DC building power technology has reached the end of the development stage and has started the commercialization process. Darnell's Green Building Power Forum is the only place where global thought leaders gather on an annual basis to assess progress and plan next steps." - Jeff Shepard, President, Darnell Group

The Fourth Annual Green Building Power Forum will consider all aspects of building power including both high-voltage and low-voltage dc distribution, hybrid ac and dc distribution architectures, and dc microgrids.

The Green Building Power Forum will serve the needs of a broad community of stake holders including:

  • Design engineers and engineering management
    • Computing, communications, lighting, white goods, etc.
  • Component and equipment makers
    • Distribution panels, lighting systems, etc.
  • Distributed generation system makers
    • PV panels, fuel cell systems, micro turbines, etc.
  • Industry organizations
    • EMerge Alliance, Underwriters Labs, etc.
  • Utilities
    • Electric Power Research Institute, local utilities, etc.
  • Government and other organizations
    • Department of Energy, EPA, government labs, universities, etc.
  • Facilities Designers, Engineers, Architects, Builders and Operators
    • Critical facilities, commercial/industrial buildings, etc.
  • Industry and Financial Analysts

Green Building Power Forum is a sister-event with Darnell's DC Building Power Asia. The Third-Annual DC Building Power Asia will be hosted December 2011, in Taipei, Taiwan.
