The theme of this conference is Engineering for the Future . The need to deliver electricity to customers: reliably, safely and cost effectively and in a sustainable manner, is always with us. To do this given the multiplicity of constraints means the electrical power system must be carefully engineered, not only to meet today s needs, but for the foreseeable future, hence the theme for this conference. There are the ever present constraints on resources, as well as environmental considerations.
